Member of PRS since 1980. Associate Member of PRS since 1984. In his activities as Band Leader Geoff Warren has always contributed the most part of the repertoire of his groups. As sideman or collaborator he has often contributed to the repertoire, as is the case with the duo Warren/Izmailov and the Badal Roy Trio (See discography).
1983 Awarded an Arts Council of Great Britain Bursary to compose an extended work for jazz quartet. "Other Storeys" was premiered at the Seven Dials Jazz Club, London, and broadcast twice on BBC Radio 3 in 1984. Dave Ilic of City Limits magazine wrote:
"While there's been much talk about extending the forms of jazz composition, few British jazzers have actually got down to taking the bull by the horns. Saxophonist/flautist Warren might well be amongst the (less vocal) exceptions, a composer whose original scripts drew equally from jazz and rock. The Arts Council commissioned "Other Storeys" premiered last year, however, marked a major development, effectively focussing and interweaving the different improvisatory methods existing within the group." City Limits Magazine, London, August 1984.
Since 2000 Geoff Warren, as well as contributing to the repertoires of the groups with which he performs has also dedicated himself to the composition of chamber music, maintaining a strong modern jazz influence, see below the piece “Entrata”, first of four movements in a suite for flute and piano.
